The 2020 Election: Hollywood Reacts

Initial reaction to the 2020 election was rather muted as people across the country waited for results, unsure which way the night was going to go. But Hollywood is speaking up, and the reactions range from simple messages of congratulations to unhinged, deranged rants. Here’s a smattering of examples, roughly in increasing order of insanity:

Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine from “Seinfeld” and star of the HBO show “Veep”) tweeted that “‘Madame Vice President’ is no longer a fictional character.”

Louis-Dreyfus’ fictional character Selina Meyer on “Veep” becomes president at the end of Season 3 after the president steps down. Could that portend a similar route to the Oval Office for Harris?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson posted a nearly 8-minute long video to Instagram in which he said that he cried “manly tears” over the results.

After the media declared Biden the winner of the 2020 election on Saturday, Jennifer Lawrence shared a video of herself running around a Boston sidewalk in her pajamas, screaming in celebration while blasting Childish Gambino’s song “This is America.” (Childish Gambino is the stage name of comedian/ actor/ singer Donald Glover.)

Lawrence said in a recent interview that it was hard for her to talk politics, and that she didn’t want to, because she wants everyone to see her movies. It seems she’s gotten over that shyness.

After it became clear on election night that Trump was going to win Florida, The Daily Show tweeted a doctored video clip of the Death Star from “Star Wars” blowing up the state.

Uh guys, you do know that The Empire was evil, right? It used the Death Star to destroy a planet full of innocent people. You just obliterated Florida like The Empire obliterated Alderaan.

The actor John Leguizamo likewise tweeted that “Florida is dead to me! Let the lemmings drive their golf carts into the ocean!”

With election results much closer than the polls indicated, Josh Gad (“Frozen”) wrote on Twitter that “America has shown itself to be dangerously racist.”

Married couple and frequent Trump critics Chrissy Teigen and John Legend shared a video of themselves grooving to the anti-Trump anthem “FDT,” which repeatedly features the lyrics “Fuck Donald Trump.”

Comedian Jena Friedman tweeted “I didn’t realize that roughly 1/3 of Americans are Nazi sympathizers” in reference to Trump voters.

Those kinds of comments aren’t going to help Biden’s call for unity.

On the Thursday following the election, Keith Olbermann tweeted “It is necessary to remove, and arrest, the president of the United States. Tonight.” He also called for the removal and arrest of Vice President Mike Pence.

Not that long ago, Democrats were aghast at the idea of locking up a political opponent. But now Leftists are gleefully chanting “Lock him up!”

In a video he shared on Twitter, the former ESPN and MSNBC host also called Trump supporters “morons.”

Olbermann previously called for now-Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett to be prosecuted and “removed from society.” It isn’t clear what crime she supposedly committed, but committing a crime was never a requirement for Leftists to sentence someone to the gulag.
