President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump both tested positive for coronavirus and Hollywood is having a field day with the news. While some celebs expressed sympathy, others were gleeful with schadenfreude at the news that the president of the United States has a potentially deadly virus.
Here is a round-up of some of the immediate reactions as expressed on Twitter:
Kathy Griffin:
“Ok fine. I’ll pray for him and the wife on one condition.
NOT mild symptoms.
And they each go on a ventilator, for at least 5 days.
That’s my best and final.”

Alyssa Milano:
“As someone who has had #COVID19 and still suffers from post-covid syndrome, I can honestly say with all that I am that I wouldn’t wish this virus on my worst enemy.
Please wear a mask.”
Judd Apatow:
“Tonight will reveal where we all think the line is comedically.”

Whitney Cummings:
“I don’t get how Melania got it – she’s been social distancing from trump since they got married”
Yvette Nicole Brown:
“But it’s a Democratic Hoax? How could this have happened?! And WHY did you get tested?! That’s what causes it!”

Rob Reiner:
“That damn hoax”
Rachel Maddow:
“God bless the president and the first lady. If you pray, please pray for their speedy and complete recovery — and for everyone infected, everywhere.
This virus is horrific and merciless — no one would wish its wrath on anyone.
We must get its spread under control. Enough.”
Bradley Whitford:
“Whole bunch of our most vulnerable citizens, disproportionately communities of color, have been dying of this disease. Now that a While Nationalist has it, maybe we’ll take it seriously.”
Patton Oswalt:
“Guiliani’s gonna lose his mind when he finds out Trump has The Covi”
Billy Eichner:
“He went to a fundraiser with his own supporters without a mask knowing he was exposed. I can’t get over it.”
Laurie Kilmartin:
“excited for the list of rich New Jersey Republicans who now have COVID”
Jen Kirkman:
“Wait, why do I not even a little bit believe that Trump has Covid-19? He would never admit that. Something is up. Do I sound insane?”
Mark Hamill:
“If anything positive can come him testing positive, it would be his followers reevaluating their opinions. If they will now accept a lockdown, social distancing & mandatory mask-wearing, we could crush the virus like we should have from the start. #ButIAlsoBelieveInTheToothFairy”
Piers Morgan:
“Interesting to see those who’ve spent the last few years screaming that Trump’s an uncaring, heartless empathy-devoid b*stard now spewing their gleeful joy that he & his wife have a deadly virus. They’re no better than the man they loathe.”
Ben Shapiro:
“Looking forward to all the kind-hearted expressions of sympathy to Trump and Melania from the blue-checkmark Left.”

Bridget Phetasy:
“I demand Zoom debates.”
Trump made the announcement on Twitter a few minutes before 1 a.m. (Eastern) on Friday, after having announced earlier that presidential aide Hope Hicks had tested positive. Hicks had recently traveled with the president aboard Air Force One and later showed symptoms. There has been no indication as of this writing that either Trump or the first lady are experiencing symptoms, but they are in quarantine.
According to Trump’s doctor, “The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.” The White House physician also said that as of now, the president is expected to be able to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering.
“Last Man on Earth” almost predicted this
The canceled FOX show “Last Man on Earth” starring Will Forte came close to predicting this scenario. During a flashback episode in Season 3, the Pamela character (played by Kristen Wiig) watches a series of presidential funeral processions, as each successive president is felled by a global pandemic.
“Last Man on Earth” is one of the most original and funny comedies to appear on network TV in recent years, but if you haven’t seen it, don’t bother because FOX killed the show on a cliffhanger at the end of the fourth season. FOX has a bad habit of doing that. Still angry about them canceling Sliders… which coincidentally had an episode about a deadly plague.
