Whoopi Goldberg might need a refresher about recent history.
Last Monday, “The View” host said that Trump voters need to “suck it up” and accept that they lost, just as Democrats did after the 2016 election.
“When you-know-who was elected four years ago, Hillary Clinton didn’t say, ‘Hey wait a minute, this doesn’t feel right. Stop the count,” Goldberg said. “She didn’t say any of that, so all of you [who are contesting the results], suck it up! Suck it up, like we sucked it up.”
When exactly did Democrats do that?
For the past four years, Democrats have repeatedly called President Trump illegitimate and worked to #RESIST.
Recall that the Women’s March descended on Washington, D.C. to protest Trump literally one day after he was inaugurated. So much for giving a newly elected leader a chance.
Before Trump even took office and then for the first two+ years of the Trump administration, Democrats and their media allies pushed a narrative that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election. When evidence of conspiracy never materialized, they quickly pivoted and impeached Trump over another unrelated issue.

Former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has repeatedly said that the 2016 election was stolen from her, and former Democratic President Jimmy Carter also said that Trump is illegitimate.
Had Democrats actually accepted the results of the 2016 election and worked cooperatively with Trump, it would have greatly reduced the acrimony over these past four years. Instead, they chose to #RESIST at nearly every turn.
In terms of not accepting election results, Democrats have also repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that Stacey Abrams was elected governor of Georgia in the 2018 election and that the election was stolen from her, even though she lost by about 50,000 votes. And don’t forget how many Democrats have said that the 2000 presidential election was stolen from former Vice President Al Gore.
Remember too that Clinton said Biden should not concede the 2020 election “under any circumstances.”
In the run up to the 2020 election, Democrats sewed doubt about the legitimacy of the potential outcome by warning of foreign interference and mass voter suppression by Republicans. They said the post office was actively working to thwart voting by mail. As it happens, the voter turnout rate was the highest it’s been in more than a century.
In October, former Vice President Biden said that the only way he could lose to Trump was through “chicanery.”
Based on the vote total as it stands today, it looks like Biden won, so Democrats are now saying the election was undeniably legitimate and there is no reason to question the results. Another quick pivot.
Until states certify the election results and the electoral college meets, Trump has the legal right to challenge the results in court, just as Al Gore did in 2000. Every legal ballot must be counted, and potential voter fraud scrutinized. Claims over voter fraud will need to be backed up with evidence. A legitimate election demands it.
And if Biden did indeed win, then Trump and Trump’s supporters should absolutely accept the results. But it’s ridiculous for Whoopi Goldberg to try to rewrite history by claiming Democrats accepted the results of the 2016 election. They did not.
In 2017, Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey criticized people who refused to accept the results of the 2016 election. In a recent interview, he urged the country to embrace the winner and be constructive regardless of outcome.
“Whether it’s an incumbent in Trump or whether it’s Biden, after it happens is when it’s time to get constructive and not be in denial,” McConaughey said.
