It’s amazing what actors on the Left can get away with saying, without getting canceled.

Two days after President Biden was inaugurated, “The West Wing” actor Tim Matheson said on Twitter that it’s “wonderful” to have a First Lady who “can speak English.”

“So wonderful to have a First Lady with class and heart. And, can speak English!” Matheson tweeted.

It’s weird that Matheson chose to make fun of former First Lady Melania Trump’s ability to speak English given that she speaks multiple languages and English is not her native tongue. And it’s ironic that his tweet was not grammatically correct. “And, can speak English!” is a sentence fragment; Matheson probably shouldn’t criticize someone else’s fluency until he learns that complete sentences must include both a subject and a predicate.

In addition to deleting the xenophobic tweet, Matheson later apologized for the anti-immigrant slur, writing on Twitter that, “This morning I made a hasty and stupid joke about the former First Lady. It wasn’t funny, and it was in poor taste. It was regretful and humorless and I apologize.”

At least he quickly apologized.

Matheson has 190 acting credits on IMBD. He played Vice President John Hoynes on “The West Wing” and he is also known for playing “Otter” in “National Lampoon’s Animal House.”
