Jackie Chan wants To Be A Chinese Communist Party Member

Jackie Chan proudly declared that he wants to be a Chinese Communist Party Member. 

“I’m very lucky to be a Chinese person, but I am also very jealous that you all are Party members. I just think the Chinese Communist Party is really so magnificent,” Chan said while speaking at a China Film Association symposium in July. “I want to be a Party member!” 

The symposium was one of several propaganda events celebrating the Chinese Communist Party’s 100^th anniversary. Earlier in July, Chan participated in another propaganda event at the “Birds Nest” national stadium that was used for the 2008 Olympics opening ceremony. 

Variety reported Chan’s remarks based on video from the official state-broadcaster CCTV. 

The Hong Kong-born actor, known for his marital arts skills and starring roles in movies like “Rush Hour” and “Shanghai Noon,” has long supported the Chinese Communist Party’s control of the government. 

In 2009, Chan said he thought Chinese people needed to be controlled and questioned whether freedom is good for society. 

“I’m not sure if it’s good to have freedom or not. I’m really confused now. If you’re too free, you’re like the way Hong Kong is now. It’s very chaotic. Taiwan is also chaotic,” Chan said. “I’m gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we’re not being controlled, we’ll just do what we want.”

China Wages Disinformation War Against The U.S.

As the search for the origins of the coronavirus pandemic continues, China is waging a disinformation war against the U.S.

On July 29, an English-language Twitter account for “China Xinhua News” (which is controlled by the Chinese government and the CCP) shared a propaganda video that suggests the United States fabricated the lab leak hypothesis as a pretext for going to war with China. The video includes a fake laugh track.

The Twitter account also shared several political cartoons suggesting the U.S. is making up the lab leak to scapegoat China. 

Twitter continues to allow China state media to spread disinformation, even though that violates the company’s terms of service.
